Everything you need to know.

Before Your First Appointment

The first step is to simply call us.

If your doctor has referred you for physical therapy, you may have received a written prescription. Or you may have selected us without going to your doctor first. Either way is great. Some insurance companies require a referral or prescription from a doctor. If this is the case we will let you know. If you have a referral from your doctor, please bring it with you on your first appointment.

Accepted Insurance

We accept most insurance plans and are always eager to help our patients navigate and understand their insurance benefits.

Some insurers may require you to have authorization from them before you begin your physical therapy. If necessary, we will obtain this authorization for you once we have your insurance information.

Please call our office at 503-227-7774 so that we can assist you in verifying your benefits and scheduling your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I see a physical therapist without a referral from a doctor?

Yes! You have Direct Access* to physical therapy in Oregon.

In some cases, your medical insurance plan may require a referral from your doctor prior to starting physical therapy. We will need your insurance information to verify your benefits and requirements prior to starting your therapy. If a referral is required, we will let you know and assist you in obtaining it.

We enjoy collaborating with the physicians and other healthcare providers in your life and will maintain close communication with them to support your overall health and wellness.

If your insurance doesn't require a referral, you have the opportunity to start therapy sooner which will enable you to start feeling better that much faster. Starting sooner will mean less pain, a more rapid recovery and return to your normal life more quickly. It may be wise however, to visit your doctor first if your condition is the result of trauma, like a fall or an impact. X-rays or additional testing may be required to rule out a more serious injury.

*Direct Access gives patients in Oregon the ability to seek physical therapy care without having a referral from a physician.

  • Where can I park?

We have a parking lot with the entrance on SW 17th Ave between SW Morrison and SW Yamhill. Parking is free and there are some handicapped spots close to our main entrance. If you are parking after 5:00 pm please ask our front office staff for a parking pass. We also have space to park and lock your bicycle just outside our front door.

Parking can be a challenge in our neighborhood during the very popular Timbers games. Rest assured that we will always have reserved parking spaces for you in our lot!

  • Can I take the MAX to WPPTC?

Yes, we are right on the MAX line. Our stop is right by Providence Park, home of the Timbers. If you are heading west towards Beaverton the stop will be at Civic Plaza at SW 17th and Morrison. If you are heading east towards downtown Portland, the stop will be at SW 17th and Yamhill.

  • Which physical therapist will I be seeing?

If you do not have a therapist in mind we will find the best fit for you based on your condition, your schedule, and any other needs. Please feel free to read our bios at the "Meet Us" link and get to know us a little before your visit. You can request a particular therapist.

While all the therapists at WPPTC treat a broad array of conditions, we certainly have our individual specialties and strengths. Feel free to discuss this with us when you call to schedule your first appointment.

  • Do I need to come in early for my first appointment?

Please be at the clinic 20 minutes before your appointment time. This will provide adequate time to finalize all registration forms and any documents that your insurance may require. We want you to get your full appointment with your therapist.

We always strive to see our patients exactly at their scheduled appointment times. Your early arrival will assist us in meeting this goal.

  • What if I have a workers' compensation or motor vehicle claim?
