An RC Literary Event with Author Karen Andrea Campbell, Friend of the Clinic

posted on: Jul 27th, 2021 category:news

Please join us for an evening with Karen Andrea Campbell, an American writer and advocate. Ten years ago, Karen was living the American dream in Portland: a wife and a mother of two active teenage daughters, a productive career, and an outdoor enthusiast. Until one fateful day, exhausted, after a long day skiing on Mt. Hood, she caused a fatal car crash killing her husband and an innocent woman and nearly losing her own life. After many months in the hospital, she was convicted of DUI manslaughter 2 and served six years in Coffee Creek women’s prison in Wilsonville.

Falling: Hard Lessons and the Redemption of the Woman Next Door is her incredible story of her time at Coffee Creek, her cell-mates, their heart-break and victimization, and her battle to stay sane.  Kathi McCoy (West Portland Physical Therapy and prior RC member) is in the book as she gave Karen her first job after getting out of Coffee Creek.  The evening will also include a Q & A with Ramona Mathany whose amazing work as CEO of staffing company All Star Labor & Staffing specializes in finding jobs for the recently incarcerated.

We encourage our friends and patients to consider attending an RC Literary Event with author Karen Andrea Campbell. The event is Tuesday, August 17, 2021, starting at 6:00 pm at the Raquet Club of Portland. Admission costs $25 and includes appetizers and a glass of wine. Reservations are required.
